Q-RIDE restricted (RE) MOTORCYCLE COURSE
The Q-Ride Restricted (RE) course is a mandatory one day Q-Ride competency based training and assessment program designed to help learner riders further develop their riding knowledge and skills. The course is for riders who have completed the Q-Ride Pre Learner course and have some riding experience. It reviews and expands on the Pre Learner course to further develop riding knowledge and skills. The RE course contains 15 modules that are delivered over a minimum of 1 day. Students must complete the Restricted Motorcycle Licence course to upgrade from a RE Learners to RE Open Licence.

WHAT TO BRING
Please bring along your safety gear-helmet, jacket, jeans, gloves, sunglasses and enclosed shoes. Helmet, jacket and gloves can also be provided for you at no additional cost.
This course is designed if you currently have your Motorcycle Learners Licence and want to upgrade to your Restricted Licence (RE).
To be eligible for this course you are required to have held your Motorcycle Learners Licence for three months to enable practice and skill building before completing your RE licence course. There is an exemption if you obtained your Learners prior to October 1st 2016, in which case you are eligible to book the course at anytime.
This course is suitable for riders who have some on-road riding experience and can confidently ride a bike
what to expect
The Restricted Licence course is a competency based training and assessment program designed to help learner riders further develop their riding knowledge and motorcycle handling skills.
Skill based exercises include:
Figure 8s – turning at low speed maintaining control
Slow ride – controlling the bike at a slow pace
Slalom – weaving around obstacles
Controlled stop – bringing the bike to a smooth stop whilst downshifting
Swerve – faster slalom skills
Emergency stop – stopping quickly and smoothly with full control
Simulated road ride:
You will complete a simulated road ride prior to a 2 hour road ride where the aim is to develop your riding skills and ensure you have the skills and knowledge to respond to potential hazards.
Once you have successfully completed the Restricted (RE) Course and are assessed as competent, your competency declaration will be processed online and you will be able to apply for your Restricted (RE) licence online, or alternatively you can apply in person at the Department of Transport and Main Roads.
