ABOUT BIKECRAFT RIDER TRAINING CAIRNS
Boss of the bikes is Jeff Read, a well-respected long term Port Douglas local, whose childhood days were spent immersed in the greasy world of motorcycles, thanks to a shared obsession with his father and brothers.
Jeff has explored every nook and cranny of the far north on two wheels, from bush trails to more epic road rides Australia-wide.
Turning his passion and lifestyle into a profession, Jeff obtained his Certificate 1V in Rider Training in 2004, and commenced delivering Q-Ride training and licensing throughout the far north, launching BikeCraft in 2011.
Jeff loves helping people of all walks of life and abilities to get on two wheels and enjoy the vibrant and adventurous local motorcycle community. You’ll find his down-to-earth approach, enthusiasm and passion infectious, and his knowledge second-to-none!

Mandatory two-day course for beginners who have little to no experience riding motorcycles. It covers the fundamentals of motorcycle operation, including starting, stopping, turning, and shifting gears. The Pre Learner course also includes instruction on road safety and defensive riding strategies. Assessment is competency-based, before you can proceed to sit the motorcycle knowledge test with the Dept Transport & Roads to obtain their motorcycle learner licence in Qld.

For experienced riders who want to enhance their skills and knowledge, this mandatory one day Q-Ride competency based training and assessment program of 15-modules course is for riders who have completed the Q-Ride Pre Learner course and have some riding experience. It focuses on advanced riding techniques, such as cornering, braking, and swerving. The course also covers topics like motorcycle dynamics, risk management, and crash avoidance strategies.
Students must complete the Restricted Motorcycle Licence course to upgrade from a RE Learners to RE Open Licence.

The Q-Ride Unrestricted (R) course is a competency based training and assessment program whose objective is to reinforce riders’ knowledge and skills, and further develop higher order cognitive skills and risk management strategies. You must have completed the Q-Ride Restricted (RE) course, have held it for two years, and have significant riding experience.
Conducted mainly on-road with regular stops to provide coaching and discuss safe riding behaviour and strategies.
